Yup, She Really Can Smile

Finally, proof that Eliza Grace can and does smile for the camera, instead of her usual "Posh Spice" face:

  2. Oh man she's so cute. She's smiling because she loves food and she's just waiting on the right time to tell you.

  3. Just came across your blog. I could so relate to the stop telling me my child is just picky and all children eat when they're hungry comments.

It sounds like my Truman eats more variety. He eats both crunchy and completely smooth stage 2s, but nothing in between, but like Eliza exists primarily on fortified breast milk and yogurt. Even though the variety is greater, he is actually a little smaller at the same adjusted ages.

Would love to swap stories with another mom who deals with this vomiting, no volume issue day in and day out.

  4. I was hoping you could elaborate on your experience and use of the Omega 3 supplements for Eliza. I am thinking about introducing the oil to my 22 month old 24 weeker.
How did you decide on brand, dosage etc..?
Are you happy with results, side effects?
Any insight you could provide would be great. There seems to be a lot of good research out there about the benefits of Omega 3 on the developing brain.
    Thanks!!

  5. Alison,

I can't take the credit for the research on the Omegas, the brand, etc. That credit goes to Hallie's mom (her link is on Eliza's blog). By all accounts, it seems as if the Nordic Naturals brand is about the most purified and conveniently has a junior liquid form of the Omega 3-6-9 oils. I get Eliza's online from omega-direct.com but you can get it at a Whole Foods store as well.

It seems as if the combination of the three oils (3, 6 and 9) is the key. I give Eliza one teaspoon in her morning bottle. I have been giving it to her for about 4 to 6 weeks and while it may be an amazing coincidence, her language skills have really improved (half dozen or so identifiable words to almost two dozen), she is actually sleeping at night and her behavior is improved, and she seems to be able to focus better on tasks, games, etc.

The pediatrician sees no harm in giving it to her and just said to keep an eye to see if it aggravated her reflux. There were a few days where I thought it was causing her reflux to act up, so I started giving Eliza a small dose of Maalox before the bottle with the oil in it. I now think though that the recent few days of vomiting were unrelated to the Omega 3-6-9 oils and related to a bit of a cold.

    Hope that helps!

  6. Thank you so much for the information on Omega 3-6-9. It's frustrating b/c I can't seem to get helpful info on supplements from my daughters Pedi. This is so very helpful!! I hope that we have similar results. Eliza is a beautiful girl! Congratulations. And thank you again for the valuable information!
